Week of May 11th-15th

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Mother's Day. ❤
This week's plans will be a little different than previous weeks. 
Our ELA activities will focus on animals since it would have been the week we attended our zoo trip. 
Friday would have been our Spirit day, activities have been planned by student council - Please see the newsletter that was sent out last Thursday for games that your whole family can enjoy!

A small animal project will be assigned this week and due by Friday on Flipgrid. The animal project will count for a Reading and Writing grade. Have fun and be creative! 

There will be no new sight words for this week but please continue to practice all words from previous weeks. I would like you to talk about and review some key animal vocabulary words with your child to help them with this week's focus: endangered, habitat, exhibit, mammal 

Monday - 
Math - Read the Math story "On the Move" on pages 621 to 626
Compete "Write about the Story" and "Figure it Out" pages 627 and 628

ELA - Take a virtual tour of the Philadelphia Zoo - You can explore their website and view this youtube video - It's about 3 minutes long and shows a lot of animals up close from the Philadelphia Zoo!

Animal Project - Choose any zoo animal - research this animal on the zoo's website, the internet and any animal books you may have at home. Find 5 interesting facts about your animal including their habitat, what they eat, and their life span. (You can write facts in your journal or on index cards) Be prepared to share these facts with the class on Friday through Flipgrid. Along with animal facts, please create a diorama or poster about your animal. Share this with us in your video on Friday! Most importantly, be creative!

Religion - Begin Chapter 17 - Followers of Jesus - Read and discuss page 255 and complete the drawing activity at the bottom of the page.

Tuesday - 
Math - Complete Lesson 11.1 - Three- Dimensional Shapes pages 633 - 638

ELA - Work on Animal project

Religion - The First Christians - Read and discuss pages 256 and 257. Complete the activity at the bottom of page 257.

Wednesday - 
Math - Complete Lesson 11.2 - Combine Three - Dimensional Shapes pages 639 - 644

ELA - Work on Animal project

Religion - Christians Care - Read and discuss page 258. 
Talk with a parent about how the people of Holy Family parish helped the Ames family.

Thursday - 
Math - Complete Lesson - 11.3 - Make New Three - Dimensional Shapes pages 645 - 650

ELA - Finish Animal project for your flipgrid presentation tomorrow!

Religion - Our Church Teaches - Read and discuss page 259. 
Complete the coloring activity at the bottom of page 259.

No Zoom tomorrow morning due to Spirit Day ! I can't wait to see your animal projects on Flipgrid!

Friday - Spirit Day - Wear your SSJ gym uniform and spend the day playing some fun games with your family. 
Post your animal project on Flipgrid and spend some time viewing classmates' projects!

Music E-Learning 5/11 and 5/14
1. Explore Mrs. Stringham's virtual classroom!
-Students can click on different objects in the music room to reveal videos or activities.
-This will work best in presentation mode!
-Please have your student click on the Smartboard last.
-There is a spot where students can leave Mrs. Stringham a message and another where they can hear a message from Mrs. Stringham!
-Use the attached Google Slides to enter the virtual music classroom. 
2. Music Safari!
-This game is based upon a Young Person's guide to the Orchestra.
-Click on the Smartboard in the virtual music room to go to the game.
-Click on "local" game or create an account to play the music game. Either option will give you access to the game.
-This will work best on a laptop or computer that has flash. 
-Follow the directions and have fun!

Week of May 4th-8th

Happy May! We are in the homestretch with only 17 more academic days left until the end of the year. We are off on   5/ 21, 5/22, and 5/25. Last day of e-learning is 5/29. May 11th was supposed to be our field trip to the zoo so we will be doing animal-related activities. Hopefully, everyone had an opportunity to pick up their supplies in the Narthax over the weekend. Daily Zoom sessions at 9:30 for math and teaching of new concepts in ELA. Monday Math lesson 10.5 -  reading tally charts pp. 599-604.  ELA - New words this week are: give, surprise, would, enjoy, worry, about. Write words 2X each in your "W" copybook. Preview our new story, Mama's Birthday Present in unit 4 by looking at pp. 12. Discuss what it means to treasure something. Share ideas about surprises and talk about how a surprise can be a treasure. Look at pp. 14 and 15 and find all the pictures that have the long a sound.
