Week of May 4th-8th

Happy May! We are in the homestretch with only 17 more academic days left until the end of the year. We are off on  5/ 21, 5/22, and 5/25. Last day of e-learning is 5/29. May 11th was supposed to be our field trip to the zoo so we will be doing animal-related activities. Hopefully, everyone had an opportunity to pick up their supplies in the Narthax over the weekend. Daily Zoom sessions at 9:30 for math and teaching of new concepts in ELA.

Monday
Math lesson 10.5 -  reading tally charts pp. 599-604. 

ELA - New words this week are: give, surprise, would, enjoy, worry, about.
Write words 2X each in your "W" copybook.
Preview our new story, Mama's Birthday Present in unit 4 by looking at pp. 12. Discuss what it means to treasure something. Share ideas about surprises and talk about how a surprise can be a treasure. Look at pp. 14 and 15 and find all the pictures that have the long a sound. Long a can be spelled using digraphs ai and ay. 
Look at pp. 16 and 17 and read the sentences to a parent.
Readers Writers Notebook pp. 409 and 410. 

Religion- Read pg. 238 about a Holy Parade. Complete the activity on pg. 239. Write a petition to the Holy Spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. 

Tuesday
Math lesson 10.6  on tally charts pp. 605- 610

ELA- In hardback reading book at pp. 18 and 19 on Singular and plural possessives. Singular meaning one, and plural meaning more than one shows ownership by calling these words possessives. Possessives show the reader that something belongs to someone like Sam's hat. When the word is plural already like kids and we want to write that the kids own something , we write it as kids'. Notice where we put the apostrophe before the s when it is one or singular and when it is plural the apostrophe goes after the s.
Write your high frequency words in ABC order in your W copybook.
In your journal, answer the question of the week. How can a surprise be a treasure? Take a picture of your journal writing and send it to me. 
Read the story Mama's Birthday Present with a parent. Discuss questions # 1 and 2 on pg. 44.
RWN- Complete pp. 411, 413, 414.

Religion
Complete pp. 241, 242 chapter 16 review and send me a picture of your work. 

Wednesday
Math lesson 10.7- problem solving pp. 611-616.

ELA- RWN- complete pages 415 on adjectives. Adjectives tell about a person, place, or thing and they describe something using color words, shape, size, emotions, ect. Also complete pp. 417, 418.
Tear out Quails in your RWN and read it to a parent. Look for words that have long a sounds, possessives, and your high frequency words. 
Write a sentence for each high frequency word in your W copybook.

Religion
Complete the activity on pg. 243. What kinds of activities are there for families in your parish? Draw a picture of your favorite one. On pg. 246, Write the names of people who need our prayers on the prayer chains. 

Thursday
Math chapter 10 Review/ test. Complete pp. 617-620.  We will do together on Zoom. Please take pictures of the pages and send them to me.

ELA- Write a creative story using all of your high frequency words.

RWN- complete pp. 421, 422.
Reread story, Mama's Birthday Present again and practice your fluency by reading with expression. Answer questions and discuss  #3 and #4 with a parent. 

Religion
Complete pp. 247 and 248 on unit review. 

Friday
Math - We will begin the introduction pages in next chapter 11. Complete pp. 630 and 631. Complete "The Write Way " on pg. 632D

ELA- Complete RWN pp. 423, 424.
On flipgrid, record a video telling me the important lesson you learned after reading the story about Mama's Present. What did you learn from this story ?


Children, make your Mom a beautiful card and think of a gift that you could give her that she would treasure for the rest of her life. Make it special and save it for Sunday and surprise her with it for Mother's day!

Religion- Complete pp. 249 and 250

Complete activity on page 348) Math - Begin Lesson 9.7 - Time to the half hour - Complete pages 549, 550, and 551 ELA - ~Fluency -Practice Reading with Expression page 149 in hardback reader ~Look at page 152 and 153 in hardback reader - Find 5 pictures that contain the vowel sound in turn. Say all of the sounds in one of the words. Now find something in this picture that rhymes with  twirl . Add the sound /z/ to the end of that word. Say the new word.

Week of May 11th-15th

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Mother's Day.  This week's plans will be a little different than previous weeks.  Our ELA activities will focus on animals since it would have been the week we attended our zoo trip.  Friday would have been our Spirit day, activities have been planned by student council - Please see the newsletter that was sent out last Thursday for games that your whole family can enjoy! A small animal project will be assigned this week and due by Friday on Flipgrid. The animal project will count for a Reading and Writing grade. Have fun and be creative!  There will be no new sight words for this week but please continue to practice all words from previous weeks.
