Week of May 18th, 19th, and 29th.

Boys and girls, I wanted you to know how proud I am for the excellent job you all did on your animal projects! I had so much fun watching them and loved hearing you tell me what you learned from your research! A superior job done by all of my students!!!!

This week is a short week as we don't have school Thursday or Friday. Enjoy your long weekend!

Monday
Math lesson 11.4 pp. 651-656.

ELA- Discuss special stories we've heard over and over again and how a story can be a treasure.
New words for "W" copybook: draw, colors, over, drew, great, sign, show. 
Write words 2X each in your "W" copybook.
Vowel digraph "ea" has 2 sounds,  it is a vowel team  and can have the long e sound like in the word eat. It can also make another sound where the e is short like in the word bread. Look at pp. 54 and 55 in your hardback reading book and listen for the sounds as you find 2 things that rhyme with reach. Find a picture that rhymes with head. Say the sound in the middle of the word. Find 2 things that end in the long e sound.  
Complete pp. 425 and 426 in your Readers Writers Notebook. 

Religion- Read pp.260 and 261 about Saint Paul's Parish. Complete the activity on pg. 261 to find the words in the word search. Read the prayer on pg. 262, A Prayer of Faith.

Tuesday
Math lesson 11.5 pp. 657-662.

ELA- Write high frequency words in ABC order in your W copybook.
Complete pp. 427, 429, and 430 in your RWN.
When adding ed, er, and est to a word that ends in y- drop the y and add ied, ier, and iest. The i takes the place of the y. 
Read pp. 56 -58 in hardback reading book. 

Religion- complete chapter 17 review pp. 263 and 264. Please take a picture of those pages and send them to me for a grade. 

Wednesday
Math- complete chapter 11 review/test on pp. 663-666. Please take a picture of those pages and send them to me for a grade.

ELA- Complete pp. 431, 433, and 434 in your RWN.
Write a sentence for each high frequency word in your W copybook.
Carefully tear out the story Bread in your RWN. Look for words with the ea vowel digraph. Look for words that changed y to i. 
Read the fairy tale Cinderella in your hardback textbook pp. 60-78. Discuss the comprehension questions on pg 78 # 1-3.

Religion- Read the pages 265 and 266 getting ready for chapter 18. Complete the activities on pg. 267.

Specials: Art, Library, and Spanish were forwarded to your email. 

Music E-Learning 5/18
1. Explore Mrs. Stringham's virtual classroom!
-Students can click on different objects in the music room to reveal videos or activities.
-This will work best in presentation mode!
-Please have your student click on the Smartboard last.
-There is a spot where students can leave Mrs. Stringham a message and another where they can hear a message from Mrs. Stringham!
-Use the attached Google Slides to enter the virtual music classroom. 
2. The Jazz Fly 
-Click on the Smartboard to listen to the story about the jazz fly!
-Have you ever heard jazz music before? Do you like it?
-Does jazz music always use real words we can understand?
-Where do you think you might hear jazz music in real life?
-What instruments do you think play jazz music?
-Draw a picture of your favorite part in the story!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter  Please keep in mind that along with these assignments you are also strongly encouraged to: ~Go on first in Math ~Practice all sight words from the year ~Practice puzzles ~Go on educational websites - (abcya, startfall, brainpop junior) ~Get daily exercise outside with your family ~Read and write in your 40 book challenge Wednesday -  Religion - Complete pages 348, 349 and 350 (Easter - understand that God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him new life. Complete activity on page 348) Math - Begin Lesson 9.7 - Time to the half hour - Complete pages 549, 550, and 551 ELA - ~Fluency -Practice Reading with Expression page 149 in hardback reader ~Look at page 152 and 153 in hardback reader - Find 5 pictures that contain the vowel sound in turn. Say all of the sounds in one of the words. Now find something in this picture that rhymes with  twirl . Add the sound /z/ to the end of that word. Say the new word.

Week of May 11th-15th

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Mother's Day.  This week's plans will be a little different than previous weeks.  Our ELA activities will focus on animals since it would have been the week we attended our zoo trip.  Friday would have been our Spirit day, activities have been planned by student council - Please see the newsletter that was sent out last Thursday for games that your whole family can enjoy! A small animal project will be assigned this week and due by Friday on Flipgrid. The animal project will count for a Reading and Writing grade. Have fun and be creative!  There will be no new sight words for this week but please continue to practice all words from previous weeks.
